Moon over Aspen Meadow

The village of Aspen, Colorado is lined with aspen trees, lending the name to this picturesque location. During the fall months the aspen turn a golden yellow and are one of the highlights for the area. After a long day of shooting in the area, I was heading down a backroad and the sky really started to light up. The moon was close to full and the leaves were in their prime colors. Somewhere deep within the Aspen trees, elk were grazing and I they were calling out to each other. As it turned to night trees disappeared into the darkness and the elk rested.

Juniper at the Garden of the Gods

Garden of the Gods is a popular natural landmark nestled at the foot of Pikes Peak on the west side of Colorado Springs. Known for its massive red rocks sticking straight out of the ground, tourists come from all over the world to wander the trails, see the wildlife and witness the formations for themselves. Garden of the Gods is one of my favorite locations to shoot in the Colorado Front Range. The mix of color in the rocks and the character of the Junipers always makes this a great event!

Bear Creek in Evergreen

Bear Creek is a small creek that begins up in the Mount Evans Wilderness and makes it’s way through Evergreen, Kittredge, Idledale and Morrison Colorado. This photo was taken in the early days of COVID-19 while I was working from home. With everything going on in the world at that time, it was great to relax and listen to the sounds of the water passing me by.

Hanging Lake

Hanging Lake is a Colorado treasure and a rare example of a travertine geological formation located in the heart of Glenwood Canyon on the White River National Forest. The location was impacted by the Grizzly Creek Fire in 2020 and has since had significant erosion damage. This picture was taken in the early 2000's with a large format film camera. At that time different angles were available to shoot the lake but his has since changed as the volume of tourists to the lake increased. This was taken from an angle that is not allowed now.

Dream Lake

Dream Lake is a high alpine lake located in Rocky Mountain National Park in northern Colorado, located east of the continental divide. The lake is accessed via the popular Bear Lake trail head and is at the base of Hallett's Peak, and is well known for its stunning views caused by surrounding steep cliffs, and a popular destination for casual hiking. This shot was taken on a medium format film camera in the late 2000's during the winter.

Waves of Sand, Great Sand Dunes

Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve protects the tallest dunes in North America... and a whole lot more. The park and preserve contain ecosystems ranging from wetlands to forest to tundra—each supporting specially adapted plant, animal and insect life. I went to the dunes with my father to shoot this picture during the fall in the mid 2000's. Originally I was setup to capture a sunrise shot and then turned around to see this!. I was shooting large format film at the time and it takes time to setup the camera for a shot but was able to get this one. The dark lines in the sand are created, at least partially, by the rising sun casting shadows.

Storm over Mount Blanca

Mount Blanca rises out of the San Luis valley in Colorado from the grassy fields to 14,000 feet. This was taken in the mid-2000's on a large format camera. The clouds often hang over the Rockies with strong storms while the area below is clear and calm.

Twin Lakes in the Fall

Resting in the shadow of Colorado’s tallest peak, Twin Lakes is one of Colorado's most scenic locations. The community lies adjacent to the state's two largest glacial lakes along the Top of the Rockies Scenic and Historic Byway. This picture was taken with a large format film camera which allows significant focus control and allowed me to get the rocks in the foreground clear along with the peaks behind. This was taken in the mid 2000's

Red Rocks park near Morrison Colorado is known for its amphitheater, however, many miss the park itself. This was taken on trail around the park in 2020. This was one of my first images with my digital medium format camera which captures much more detail that most Digital cameras. We live only a few miles from this park and It is such a great place to hike!

Moon over the Garden

This photo was taken with a large format film camera just as the moon was perched above the rock. The image was professionally drum scanned and has extreme levels of detail that are not available on any digital camera as of 2021.
